Julia, a Daytona Beach native, credits the Daytona Playhouse with two seminal moments in her theatrical career. First, playing the back end of a donkey in a production of Pinocchio when she was seven and second, seeing the Asolo Theater’s touring production of As You Like It here when she was eight. Those experiences left her determined to be an actress. After Seabreeze High School, she ran off to New York for college (Barnard) and a career that has included regional theater, national tours, Off-Broadway and international work as a singer and actress. Theater has always been a family affair for Julia, so when her dad, Tippen Davidson, founded Seaside Music Theater, she came home every summer to help. The company spent three fabulous years renting space from the Playhouse before moving to Daytona State and eventually to the News-Journal Center. Seaside grew into a large regional theater and went year-round so, after their first son was born, the Truilo family moved back to the area. Julia was SMT’s full-time Managing Director until the theater closed in 2008. Since then, she has worked extensively with City Repertory Theatre in Palm Coast.
