Written by Sydney Howard in 1932 as Muse of All Work. Adapted from Prenez garde à la peinture by René Fauchois. Howard's is considered to be the American version. A British version was adapted from the French by Emlyn Williams in 1933. Premiered in Baltimore on October 24, 1932, at Ford's Opera House. Premiered on Broadway a week later at the Henry Miller's Theatre. A film version of the American play, titled Christopher Bean and starring Marie Dressler and Lionel Barrymore, was released by M-G-M in 1933. Later revived in New York in 2009 by The Actors Company Theatre. The British version premiered at the St James's Theatre on King Street, St James's in London on May 16, 1933, where it ran for 488 performances. It was revived in 1936 at the Victoria Palace and the Embassy Theatre in 1951.
