Musical theater has been an important part of Jo’s life, especially here at the Playhouse where she appeared in Kiss Me Kate (Bianca), Oliver (Nancy), Cabaret (Sally Bowles), The Boy Friend (Polly), and Sugar (Sugar).
Other leading roles in other venues include Mama Rose in Gypsy and Reno in Anything Goes.
She has taught private voice and piano for 50-plus years. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University and Masters in the Art of Teaching from Rollins College.
One of her positions was as Head of the Vocal Music Department at Daytona Beach Community College. While in that capacity she was the founder of the Madrigal Dinner, took the DBCC Concert Choir and Expressions on three European tours and directed ten musicals including: Camelot, Show Boat, My Fair Lady, George M, Babes in Arms, Bye Bye Birdie, Funny Girl, Finian’s Rainbow, Stop the World: I Want to Get Off, and Once Upon a Mattress.
She was the lead singer of the band, Frank & Jo & the Sunshine Way. Jo has also served in some capacity of church music for many years: director of music, organist, and pianist.
