Joe and Jerry are unfortunate witnesses of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. To escape gangster Spats Palazzo, they hitch a ride to Florida disguised as members of a band — a female band. They seem to be in the clear, except Joe (or "Josephine") starts to fall for the band's lead singer Sugar Kane. Add to that a wealthy older gentleman who wants to whisk Jerry ("Daphne") away, and you've got a comedy that has delighted audiences for decades.
Book by Peter Stone, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill. Based on the 1959 film Some Like It Hot, which was adapted by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond from a story by Robert Thoeren and Michael Logan. Premiered on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre on April 9, 1972.
